We left some space at the top of the letter so you can handwrite a note like the following examples; don’t leave it blank. An effort to reach out personally will be noticed,
Example 1:
Dear Senator Thune,
Soon, you will reaffirm (use take if writing to the newly elected) your oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Almost immediately, once seated in the new Congress, your job to Advise and Consent to the President’s Cabinet and other posts begins. This is a critical role, and I urge you to take it very seriously…
Though this language is already in the letter because this is a marketing piece, note that we are selling something to the recipient, so repeating the point you want to make is useful.
Example 2: Keep it straightforward method.
Dear Senator Thune,
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.
Example 3: The personal method
Dear Senator Thune,
I appreciate so much that you stand for XXXXX
(find something complimentary to say; they’re more likely to read the rest of the letter).
Forging ahead
Democracy is in grave peril, but it is not dead. Fascists depend on convincing us to give our power away and fall in line, that the fight is over and we lost. While we must be clear-eyed about the threat, we must not do the fascists’ work for them by giving them powers they do not have. As Dr. Timothy Snyder says in his book On Tyranny: Do Not Obey In Advance. Trump wants to govern as a dictator, but he has the slimmest possible congressional majority and a grossly unpopular agenda. Winning an election with less than 49.9% of the vote (of those who voted) does not make him a Dictator for Life and does not make Project 2025 the law of the land.
Card Campaign will be creating new cards to hand out or leave for people to find, in addition to letters to Congress as situations arise. We will announce new cards, letters, or ideas on our website and our Facebook page. If you are signed up for our email list, you will receive announcements when new cards and letters are released.
Indivisible has been at the forefront of the grassroots fight against Trump and Trumpism. Recently, they published Indivisible: A Practical Guide for Democracy on the Brink, which is chock full of good things each of us can do to help push back against the fascist agenda and hold onto our Democracy.
